Apple supplier AMS's Q4 profit soars thanks to sensor technology

Chipmaker AMS reported a more than tenfold increase in fourth quarter profit as the Austria-based group benefited from rising demand for the sensors it makes for smartphone producers such as Apple. The company, which has a Swiss listing, said on Tuesday its profit increased to 141.1 million euros ($174.58 million) from 13.7 million euros a year earlier.

AMS last week reported its fourth quarter revenues increasing 252 percent to 470.3 million euros, and raised its sales outlook.
